I was gutted when Steve Darragh left Union and moved two of my favourite nights (Fitladz & Bodyshakers) to other venues. However after a short break they both ended up back in Vauxhall in August, but this time at Barcode. 4 months on and both nights have settled in well really well and are busier than ever. I had my doubts about Barcode for Fitladz, but Steve is a great promoter who listens to feedback and tweaks things, as well as spending most of the night on the floor making guests feel welcome rather than hiding away in an office.
So how’s the new setup work?
Fitladz - on entry to Barcode you decide if you just want to use Barcode (front bar) or Fitladz as well, which includes entry to the back bar/dance floor and upstairs. A stamp prevents female guests and non payers entry to the Fitladz area. The back dance floor is adorned with netting/temporary partitioning to create a cruisy dance space. DJs Pete Blakey and PJay are usually in residence. Upstairs is a dark area with seating around the edges. Around 4am, Fitladz turns into Bodyshakers, the netting etc comes down and other guests (including women) are allowed entry. The upstairs area tends to stay open for an hour or two, with security ensuring women don’t accidentally wander up there.
Bodyshakers – now just Steven Geller as the main DJ, playing his energetic and highly mixed style of music. On top of that Barcode has a really good sound system (Funktion one) which puts other venues to shame in terms of audio clarity.
On top of the above, Barcode have introduced some new DJ talent to the front bar over the past 6 months, usually playing old school house anthems until around 4am. DJs include Rob C (one of my favourite DJs) and Rich B – both of who have a RVT pedigree amongst other places. The front bar keeps very busy as well as the back bar & dance floor.
What about the talent – well that’s on the up as well; Barcode seems to attract a higher number of fit lads than its old home did!
Fitladz + Barcode + Bodyshakers seems to have it all under one roof.

It's been almost six months since I first got introduced to Chill-Out S.L.A.G.S on Sunday afternoons and the RVT and I can probably count the number of times I've missed a Sunday on one hand!
After a short queue, I entered to find the RVT ablaze with dazzling festive Christmas decorations, nicely preparing the crowd for that "Sunday before Christmas" feeling. A lot of hard work had obviously been put in by the RVT team in preparing the venue. Stunning icicle shaped shards, pointed baubles and garlands adorned the ceiling, strategically placed out of arms reach! As always, a warm and welcoming smile from Ray at the door, surrounded by his "glitter-ball heaven", before a well-needed pint of Fosters from the ever-attentive and hard-working bar staff - who all seem to know what I drink scarely!
Sadly, poor Jonathan was running slightly late, but Simon Le Vans kept the crowd informed and prepared us all with some great tunes. The Dame Edna Experience was one of the best shows I've seen to date. Taking Christmas as her theme, Edna entertained and captivated the crowd with her wit and humour as well as some very clever takes on popular Christmas numbers, including a hysterical re-work of Mariah's Christmas hit, now entitled "All I Want for Christmas is K!" We even had two showers of artificial snow during the show which came as a surprise both to us and Edna alike!
As the show went on, the wig and glasses, as ever, were removed and we were treated to Jonathan's vocal talents to the full. For his encore, Jonathan chose "Uninvited" (Alanis Morissette and more popularly The Freemasons featuring Bailey Tzuke). I'd heard Jonathan perform this some months ago, being a personal favourite of mine and was delighted to hear this again. Getting the whole crowd to play "air piano" (as opposed to "air guitar" lol!), Jonathan dazzled our ears with an emotional, moving and stunning climax. His freestyle vocal improvisation during the ending was stunningly technical and I only wish I could have videoed this on my phone. I'm eagerly awaiting a return of this performance number!
After rapturous applause, the evening continued with Andy Almighty playing a selection of some new remixes and a good blend of familiar RVT classics. The RVT stayed very busy, everyone making the most of the warmth and avoiding the freezing cold external temperatures, suffered only by us hardened smokers! The handsome Sean Sirrs took over at 9.30pm taking us up a gear and playing some real fantastic tunes! Always good to hear Scarlette Fever's "Elated" (Wayne G Club Mix) by which time the dancefloor had quietened off slightly and allowed me to bop away until midnight when, as always, the best things have to come to an end!
Two weeks ago, I persuaded my mate to come and get his RVT-cherry popped and who would know, he was back this Sunday for more! The RVT is truly a place that one wants to return to again and again. Sadly unable to attend personally, the RVT has a comprehensive set of dates for Chill-Out/S.L.A.G.S over the Christmas and New Year period, which are bound to be well-attended and certainly a great way to spend the holiday period.

I have been here before and had an OK night and so when my friend organised to have his birthday here I was happy to come along. We were on a guest list and were told to get there before midnight for free entry. The main group were running late so I got there early with two other friends at 23.40 and was told that we had to be there before 11.30 for free entry.
We were then told that we could have a stamp on our wrists which we had to show to the desk in order to get 'discount' entry of £6. We complained and if it had just been the three of us we would have gone elsewhere but we didn't want to leave our friend's birthday party so we went in.
I walked towards the bouncers who very aggressively told us to stand aside although they couldn't work out where they wanted us to stand and gave us no reason for not being able to proceed so when we just stood about looking confused they shouted at us like we were idiots. I was left standing at a high table with my bag open waiting to be searched while being ignored and one of my friends was told off for not standing in a line, even though he was the only person there.
Eventually a couple of policemen came out looking like they'd just made a drugs bust so no wonder the staff were being jumpy, but thats still no excuse for how aggressive they were. The bouncers wandered off so I thought I was free to enter, at which point the female bouncer (who seemed to be in charge) shouted at me first for not being searched and then for getting in the way while I tried to get someone to search me.
Once getting past them I reached the desk where we showed our stamps and paid our £6, then the man from outside came in and for some reason thought that we hadn't shown the stamps and started shouting at us for being stupid and not listening to him. We weren't sure what he was shouting about for a while so we thought he might just have been mentally challenged.
One of my friends was not given a ticket after paying and so was not let in even though everyone saw us pay and then accused him of trying to get people in for free by giving them his ticket.
Once inside the drinks were extortionate. Nearly £10 for two singles, when you can go to Popstarz on a Friday and get two doubles for £8 and free entry.
The rest of the birthday group arrived 20 minutes after us, but got in without hassle or paying, even though it was after 12. We would have tried complaining to management but felt like we would be assaulted by the staff.
I don't particularly like feeling threatened by the staff of an establishment I've paid to enter, and having spent nearly £30 and only getting two small drinks for my trouble I can think of better places to spend my time.

Hard On @ Factory, 22 Oct 2010 (London)
It seems these B.itches are game for anything, and with an acquaintance of the deviant type inviting us to try HardOn – we thought long and hard on it ... and since we had previously attended “F*st ReUnion” – mistakenly thinking it was HardOn – then this was the time to redeem our-fetish-selves.
Latino-B.itch needed a last minute shopping trip to purchase a pair of boots – as HardOn is remarkably strict compared to the parties we have been to at Recon and The Boots in Antwerp. We are a shy pair so we travelled incognito on the tube arriving around midnight.
Coming from the non-RVT end, Goding Street feels a little deserted but thankfully there was the door and with a minimal security check, the main concern was whether we had boots – yes and they were still in their box – all gift wrapped ;-) A gentle patting down and through into the entrance hall. Here a very organised and friendly affair took place with membership cards being checked off against computers and the £15 entry fee paid to a very cute ‘cashier’ in a red harness.
The advertising had said ‘Two changing Areas’ – well if you count two rows of chairs – one in the b.itch dark and the other a bit better lit – then I suppose there were. It’s only I imagine the delights of a Virgin Active club changing room – fussy? not us. Stripping off and into our harness, jeans (sexy chaps for the perfectly ripe Latino bum!) and of course shiny boots – we immediately caused the testosterone levels to rise and we hadn’t even entered the club proper. The cloakroom was efficiently operated and nice little ‘zippable laundry/shopping bags’ were provided to stash our civilian clothes – although the cloakroom staff looked a little bemused by the people they were serving (in various states of undress) but kept smiling nevertheless.
Our two friends came to meet us looking particularly fetching, one shiny in rubber while the other all macho in this harness – so we grabbed a drink from the bar before proceeding off to find the dance floor at the end of a dark passage way – we are really scared about hitting out heads in these places – maybe we should come as miners with head torches! It was a night sponsored by invinciblerubber.com but we could see a lot of leather harness guys hanging about too so we had no worries there – plus a few “slave pigs” – really on all floors with a piggy mask on, Latino-B.itch had to be told not to stare!
The dance floor was a nice space, with a bar at the back – already full of guys – and many much hotter and younger than we had imagined – so this was a helpful sign for a good evening to come. We of course drew even more admiring stares and Latino-B.itch’s ass seemed to be the focus of attention when they weren’t fixed on our abs. Well they can all look for free, but touching by Royal appointment only. The music was being DJ’d by Brent Nicholls, Sharon O Love and Halo-Is. We could just see the Australian Brent masterminding his selection of pumped up beats although, the DJ booth was at the back of the stage - for him a bit like being in the outback! Although on the stage there was a rubber kinky sex show taking place so I guess people wanna see the action not the DJ!
But we had to move on and explore up the stairs from here was a mezzanine cruising balcony overlooking the dance floor with bench seating – quite a nice area and remind us very much of Rapido Amsterdam – although not quite a bright – just a personal preference of wanting a little more light to see who u cruising – we are VERY choosey! But there was a blonde whose eyes kept meeting mine but was already rather engaged by the status of his manhood and the guy on his knees.
Along then through a set of doors and into the main play room which was even darker! Plenty of buckets of condoms, lube and gloves as you entered – which was encouraging to see. Bench seating to the right – slings to the left – the sling area was sleazily dark – no idea who u might stumble across in there and then we did see our rubber clad friend pumping wildly away – but he had time to turn and grin. At times this was a real traffic jam having to literally slide your way through, falling over legs and feet from kneeling cock suckers up to mischief on the floor, luckily all that lube eases the way through.
Down the steps then and into the ‘back bar’ (the coat check area) and through again into the main dance floor where we engaged ourselves in one of the Fuck n suck nooks. One part of the extra fun of doing your own boyfriend in public – well those chaps just entice you to use them – especially when he bent down to tie his lace. Then a quick freshen up involved checking out the toilets, which were being well maintained by a guy whose ass also looked pretty good in chaps! But standing for a pee at the urinals was at times off putting if u not into watersports with a guy kneeling by your side but it did give me the chance for a little anglo-dutch relations and the three of us nipped into an empty cubicle to try it out for size. And as we came out who should be waiting for us but the blonde guy again – oh go on then, he asked if we had been avoiding him – with that protrusion how could we not notice him!
We did briefly join our leather friend on the smoking terrace – mainly to ogle some fresh meat in the light and were well rewarded for our smoke inhaled pain. By 4am the crowd had started to thin, have these sleazy bunch no stamina? But the dance floor was still pulling them in with excessive amounts of CO2 and laser and minimal lighting effects, as well as some progressive pumped up tracks. In fact trying to find the exit was surreal as the fog was so thick it was scary, had to hold on to those Brazilian buttocks for safety.
So declobbering we felt like continuing but in a less sexually charged intense atmosphere so a short walk around the block and we were safely installed in Charriots to continue the beats and spent the evening with a Persian and American couple’s very affectionate company at this delightful spa.
So a pleasantly fetished first appearance for SceneB.itch at HardOn, impressed by the quality of hot guys, the efficient organisation, the safe sex tools, the dance floor, lasers and quality music. We admit not to be hardcore sleaze freaks but a little dabble from time to time suits our fancy – looking hot in our gear and saying ‘no’ gives us just as much pleasure than giving it to a minger. But there was enough fun to be had – yup thumbs up and we’ll be doing it sleazy again some day soon.

“So what are you doing Saturday night?”
“I am going to a car park”
“What! Don’t tell me you have a NCP uniform fetish now?!”
“No, and it’s not some illegal rave either, I am off to Hotwired”
So that is the initial hurdle that people have to jump over,
“Can I have a good time in a car park?”.
Having been last year I know I had a good time then but it is a logistical nightmare having to bring everything in, have to l set it all up and working but “What if the people don’t turn up?”. It is a big space to fill and to make work. “Will lightning strike twice or was last year a one off special?”
So those were the thoughts as we pulled up to the entrance in the taxi. Not that we needed a taxi as it a great central location with loads of transport links. It is just south of Tate Modern to give you an idea. The queues to go in were quick moving and we have arrived at peak time. Security were friendly and fast. Even people who bought internet tickets were processed quickly. So into the first arch: this is when you start to gain an idea of the place. This is no ordinary suburban concrete 60’s multi store car park. This car park is under the rail arches. The arches are cathedral size proportions. Wide with high brick vaulted ceilings. You’re not going to be banging your head on these unlike some other Arches in town!. Anyway the first arch is the cloakroom, a bar and the toilets. The large changing area with benches were in full use but you could still find a space and with several people serving behind the counter the 20 people long queue actually went down quickly. Within 15 minutes our little group had arrived, changed and wandered into the 2nd arch to go to the bar. Pretty good going.
The 2nd arch was half filled with the dance floor which stayed busy all night thanks to the skills of Brent Nicholls, Jon Delano, Sharon O Love and Dick Rock. The go-go men we saw through out the evening were fit, able to dance and looked sexy at the same time. They also looked like they wore the gear they were wearing off the podiums as well as on them: which when you see some of the go-gos in other place always look a bit uncomfortable in their newly bought or borrowed harnesses etc. Lights were dazzling as well with lasers zooming everywhere on the white painted ceilings which also held the large projection porn. In the other half of the arch was a long bar with plenty of action going on. Bar prices are what you would expect with £4 for a can of Red Stripe.
All the arches are joined together by one long wide corridor at the end of each arch. The next arch along is shuttered off so not available which is a shame as it is full of police cars and riot vans which am sure I could have fun with. Next door is a social area again: it has a long bar, several sofas, stools, low tables and a food van serving coffee, chocolate bars and hot food. This was a popular space as it was a good spot to socialise, meet people and chat without having to scream over music. Again the bar worked well with plenty of staff. The food van is always a good addition. If nothing else, I sometimes want a coffee in the wee hours in a club. Luckily it did not smell the place out like some nasty burger van. The chill out area was comfortable and I always found a seat even at one point on the glamorous red chaise lounge. At the far end and though the curtain was the outdoor smoking area which I admit I did only have a courtesy look at but it seemed to be good, discrete area and did not seem overcrowded. I heard no complaints about it.
The next two arches were dedicated to enjoy each other’s company or several others as the case might be. Last year the dark room was in one arch and had a bit of a bottle neck and the last arch had another bar and dance floor which never became busy. So this year the major change was the last arch also became an additional dark room. The first space where last year’s dark room had been was laid out in similar way but without the car. This allowed more freedom to your cruise. Again several slings which even I managed to fall into once or twice and some baths at one end which again I fell into a couple of times. I must improve the tread on my boots!. Baskets of condoms, gloves and lube were around. The next arch is where the car had moved to and it had brought a friend. The car was popular last year in the other space but this year it was now twice the fun. Not many back rooms have cars, I can only think of one in Sydney and another in San Francisco that do but I am sure someone will correct me. So plenty of people were taking advantage of the siren lit area. You could find a medical area here behind the screens were a gynaecological chair and some other bits to help you explore your patient’s body. The dark room DJ’s Lucious Flajore and Pistolpete was also in here. He did a really good job of keeping the atmosphere in the spaces going making it a horny space rather than a dance space which it could easily become with less skilled hands.
So that was the club but what about the night. It was amazing with an up for it crowd ranging from early twenties to 50’s. It seemed like the cream of the crop of the country’s best horny fetish pigs were out. Someone did ask me “where do all horny guys come from?” and I pointed out that not all of them live in London. So it is an event that people make the effort and expense to travel to. I’m not sure if numbers were down on last year. It did feel like it was but hard to tell over such a large space but it was still over a 1000 attending. If it was down I think that is more of a reflection on people’s purse strings than a desire to attend. It seemed like less people from the continent had travelled over to it. London is still an expensive destination .The night was busy well towards the end, the backroom was heaving but because of the extra space never felt unmanageable. There was little queuing any where including the toilets, cloak room and bars. You could have a good time doing whatever you like to do: be it social, dance or having sex. The only negative things I heard from different people that at the start of the night the bar staff did not seem to know the prices of the drinks and this was leading to a bit of confusion.
I didn’t see a show. I don’t know if there was one. I think that a night like this does not need it. After all, if you want to see some of Europe’s best porn stars have sex go into the dark room and do it, even join in!.
After several hours of good times we had to leave and again we were bowled over by the effective cloak room. So avoiding the expensive mini cabs outside we were soon in a black cab and back in Vauxhall. Tired and happy.
So a big thank you must go to Suzie Krueger, Rob Rutt, Eustace, the DJ’s and all the back team that makes this hopefully annual event happen. It truly is the nearest this country has to rival a big Berlin sex party. It advertises as London’s biggest dance/cruise leather party. Should more like be UK’s biggest fetish party.
I thought the most telling comment of the night was someone telling me they didn’t really like putting coppers into Suzie’s pockets and was not sure to come tonight. He had an amazing time and was going to come back next year. And if you missed it this year you should do the same.
Am so pleased lighting does strike twice.

The summer bank holiday had finally arrived, and I was ready for a few drinks, a good laugh and a proper dance!
Where to go? Where else!
It had to be done, as my last visit to SLAGS at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern was NYE.
Now, what can I possibly say about this long-running, legendary scene night that has not been said before?!
Firstly, I have never had a bad time there. I’ve never even had an average time. On every occasion that I have spent my Sundays there, it has been amazing.
This Sunday was another top event.
After a couple of hours of fantastic tunes courtesy of DJ Simon Le Vans, that glove appeared through the velvet curtains and The D E Experience erupted onto the stage in a beautiful silver and purple number.
The next hour was simply genius. A mixture of comedy and song. The laughter so loud and uncontrollable, you could do yourself an injury. The song, a mixture of touching (Annie Lennox’ ‘Why’ giving me goose bumps) and incredibly upbeat (‘I just wanna fucking dance’ in the middle of a jumping crowd). ‘Those were the days’ will now always remind me of a packed, loud, beautiful Tavern.
After this the other resident DJs (Sean Sirrs and Andy Almighty) kept the party going, and going! This event also saw the return of DJ Wayne G to the decks and it’s fantastic to see a DJ loving the tracks as much as the clubbers.
The venue opened till the later time of 4am and had people queuing to get inside for most of the night (the trick is to get into this night early). The staff were as friendly and helpful as always, which is not always a given in gay venues.
Overall, there is nothing that can be faulted.
I would recommend this night to anyone with an open mind and a willingness to ‘let go’.
It really is an absolute pleasure to return to this special ‘chill out’ once again. Promise I won’t leave it as long till the next time.

The Annual G-A-Y Pool Party – 13 Aug 2011 @ Heaven (London)
With Latino-B.itch still partying hard in Brazil, then it was up to Tall.B.itch to entertain friends from Paris, France, in our chic-b.itchin city of London. After a hard days ‘Le Shopping’ it was The Yard that provided a packed bar and even more packed smoking terrace on the day that “everyone” went to Brighton Pride. We find Brighton a little too parochial for our tastes but it does have a handy nudist beach full of fat older men! Our friend arrived to keep my, cough, smoker buddy company and proudly displayed his Lo-Profile wrist band. So upon witching hour of 11.15 pm, we headed over to Profile bar – only to find they stopped serving in the main bar just as it was our turn @ 11.30pm!
My friend from Paris was a little more than amazed - as on Friday night we had had a less than impressive visit to The Village. Arriving we found Heidi Licious and two Go Go boys dancing to some kind of Country & Western music on the bar – thankfully it did improve music-wise. But not having been to that venue in about three years we found the clientele a right mixed bag and it closed at 1.00am huh? So I needed a quick win to get back my b.itchin reputation.
Pointing out my friends Lo-Profile wristband he looked at it in amazement, as he thought it was for Heaven! That will teach him to stop at the first twink he fancies on Old Compton St. But Heaven seemed the more natural choice of a more middle of the road night for our French friends who had ‘liked’ it when they lived here 3 years ago – and that was the last time I had partied there too.
So with £3 entry wrist bands on offer outside G-A-Y bar and we set off to beat any queue. At 11.45 there wasn’t one – and it was pleasant security, not the old Heaven secret police style - and even a free BBQ on entry. If we’d been wearing speedos it would have been free entry, but then we might have caused a riot walking down Shaftsbury Avenue.
Coming back to the revamped format of G-A-Y Heaven made me slightly nervous of course, I have always hated the cheesiness in clubs or a too young excitable crowd and hate ‘compares’ and stuff – hence we don’t go to local bars either – I suppose we have been spoiled by the big professional productions of SuperMartXe and We Party. But I’ve a soft spot for the venue of Heaven after dancing to DJ Pagano and Nick Tcherniak all night long years before.
Thankfully it was a swift cash desk operation and then in for a tiny cloak room queue. A well attended main bar which led us through an archway into the main room – playing commercial beats/house (I think) but it was upbeat, vocal and funky enough to get our bums giggling. And oh heavens this was Pool Party night, not that I had paid much attention to that fact, and there is the centre of the dance floor was a large metre deep pool – complete with life guard security staff. Kind of suits an Ibiza or Barcelona outdoor club more but if some people get their kicks out of it, why not – there were a few hotties that came out nicely drenched and slid past us on the dancefloor. But they weren’t the only bits of hot stuff and slowly but surely the tops started to come off and there was a good selection of fit twink bodies on display. One friend commented that there was too much ming on display, apart from asking what that word meant, and nearly fainting, but I felt it was not too overwhelming but more balanced than the Vauxhall clubs which makes Heaven a more welcoming inclusive environment.
The seating booths in the main bar are a great place to get to chat to people but we wanted more and ventured upstairs to find RnB pumping out to a fairly packed room which got our French contingent shaking their ass, but we didn’t stay long and went up one more level to find a less than full ‘star bar’ playing something I can’t even remember and did an immediate u turn.
It was then that we came back down and through into the main room’s bar near the VIP room – which unfortunately our French guests were shooed away from, and up into a ‘games room’ - interesting – although the sofa seats were mighty comfortable to have a lil snuggle on. Here though we watched cute topless twinks play pool, but then lost interest as not so twinky, ‘keep your shirt on’ XXL types took over and ruined the view. Through this space was the fourth room playing it seemed 80’s pop in a misty atmosphere. We withdrew to the bar at the end of the main floor and waited an age to be served but managed to chat to two Spanish twinks who didn’t get the jokes about ‘how many days you been waiting’ but the blonde boy who was in cruising us in overdrive certainly did.
Back onto the main dance floor which is a good size, the DJ booth is a bit remote up high looking down on us but the floor was nicely full and since it was Pool Party it meant there was not going to be any stage show - or big X factor name, that I wouldn’t know, to spoil the party. The stage was full of happy dancers - but there were also plenty of low level podiums and places to stand and be seen – and we certainly were well cruised and were getting plenty of attention from an Italian Brazilian who’s friend whispered ‘my friend really likes you’ awww it’s so sweet – it’s like School Disco once more! But as 4.00am arrived it was time to drag the tired French party goers back home and exited swiftly before my other lanky teenager stalker of the night noticed.
So a revisit to Heaven as G-A-Y was actually a pleasant experience for a central London evening out. A good club layout, a bit of music policy for everyone and unbelievable cheap pricing to get in, an enthusiastic crowd who were kind on the eyes – the old dodgy geezers in raincoats of Heaven old seemed to be absent. Whether this was a completely different G-AY Heaven experience on Brighton Pride day we aren’t sure - but the main room music suited our taste without a star performing and there was enough variation for a wander around. You never know, the SceneB.itches could come back here, but not before we’ve checked out Lo-Profile first.

Getting to the RVT, through the unforecasted monsoon-like showers was difficult in itself - leaving the RVT was even harder! Being an "RVT Virgin", I went completely open-minded for the whole "experience" and what an experience it was!
The afternoon opened with cheap Fosters (always a good start for a Geordie!) and some awesome tunes care of Simon Le Vans. Not being a particular fan of drag acts/cabaret, I was totally blown away by the DEE. Jonathon Hellyer's vocal talent was amazing, his material topical and thankfully being "fresh meat" (although I'm not so sure about the 'fresh'?!?!), I didn't get 'picked on', despite being close to the front of the stage. Some poor Australian girl seemed to attract most of Edna's attention, followed by a guy standing dangerously close to me who spat his drink out he was laughing so much! I don't think I've laughed as much in a long time and enjoyed singing along (or more likely 'croaking' with my 20-a-day habit!) to Jonathan's clever take on some well known songs. What impressed me most was Jonathan's more "serious numbers" where, as my mate put it, "you can feel your hairs standing on end" and indeed there were some tingling moments.
The evening moved seamlessly into Andy Almighty playing a fabulous set where the JBL sound system gave me and my mate complete aural pleasure! One great thing about the RVT is the wooden floor, makes dancing so much better and the bass really does hit that spot on your chest! Finally, Sean Sirrs played another awesome set to end the night and brought us to the witching hour completely danced and drank out!
This will be my first of many visits to the RVT, the crowd were friendly, welcoming and the staff helpful. The way the afternoon moved into the evening, through the DEE and DJ's proves why this is such a popular destination on a Sunday and now my "RVT cherry" has been well and truly popped - I will return!

I hadn’t realized a similar night named Anthem had been run back in 2005-2006, which to be fair pre-dates my obsession with clubbing and appreciation of certain DJs. Back in early 2010 DJ/Producer Andy Almighty in conjunction with The Royal Vauxhall Tavern started to run “Anthem – Old Skool Reunion” parties as occasional Friday nighters.
The idea behind Anthem is to re-capture an energy found from nineties and early noughties events like Heaven and Love Muscle. Of course every Sunday the RVT S.L.A.G.S. Chill-Out goes some way to satisfying people, but Anthem gives the selected DJs a chance to up the ante, and being on a Friday, most people don’t have to worry about work the next day.
I’ve now attended at least 4 of the Anthem parties and to be fair, the production does not suit everyone’s taste – “uplifting NRG, happy house, soul-stirring tribal and euphoric trance”. However, at every Anthem party you’ll see a real mix of LGBT characters. This is definitely a night for connoisseurs, a bit like a good brandy - something to be savored. Oh, and if you like dancing, prepare to ache the next day.
So what of the last party (“[LINK=http://scene-out.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5632&highlight=anthem]One Night In Heaven The Party[/LINK]”). Basically everyone reported it as being the best yet, with DJs Porl Young, Wayne G and Steve B (all who have paid their dues at Heaven) keeping the crowd bouncing around from 10pm to 5am. Although I’d enjoyed all the previous parties, there was a consistent high quality of DJing throughout, and crowd wise an amazingly friendly bunch of passionate people.
Personally I don’t understand why we can’t have Anthem every Friday! Keep your eyes open for details of the next party.
Thanks to Andy Almighty and the RVT for an amazing night.
